Andrea Pirlo is expected to be appointed as the new head coach of the Italian national football team.

​Operativ Media reports, citing Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

​According to the report, the 47-year-old specialist will sign a contract running through 2030. Pirlo will earn an annual salary of €1.5 million in the role. An official announcement is expected in the near future.

​The publication reports that Pirlo became the primary candidate for the Italian Football Federation after Pep Guardiola turned down their offer. Pirlo, who has been managing Dubai United since 2025, previously had managerial spells at Juventus, Fatih Karagümrük, and Sampdoria.

​The position became vacant after head coach Gennaro Gattuso resigned following Italy's failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
