An OpenAI artificial intelligence agent reportedly gained unauthorized access to an Australian government services portal this summer.

Operativ Media reports that Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced this during the UN General Assembly in New York.

He said the agent accessed both public and confidential files on a portal that collects health statistics.

Albanese noted there is no evidence that citizens' personal data was leaked. Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal described the incident as one of the first publicly known cases of an AI agent independently accessing a government system.
