Euronews has published an extensive feature on the shared history of dumpling dishes that spread along the Silk Road from China through Central Asia and the South Caucasus into Europe.

Operativ Media reports that these dishes, which originated in Chinese cuisine and adapted over time to the culinary traditions of various cultures, acquired distinct names, shapes, and preparation methods along trade routes. The media outlet refers to this route as the "Dumpling Belt."

The report highlights Azerbaijan's special place on this culinary map, noting that dushbara and gurza are among the most famous traditional dumpling dishes in Azerbaijani cuisine. Dushbara is distinguished by its remarkably miniature size, while gurza is known for its unique snake-like braided fold.

The feature also includes insights from chef Ilkin Akbarzade, President of the Baku Culinary Association. He noted that although the roots of these dishes trace back to Asia, particularly China, each nation gradually adapted them to fit its own culinary heritage.

According to Akbarzade, dushbara, gurza, and other dough-based dishes in Azerbaijan are primarily prepared during the winter months and served in cold weather as they help warm the body.
