Tokayev removes Nazarbayev's name from Kazakhstan's foreign policy concept
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has introduced amendments to the country's Foreign Policy Concept for 2020–2030, removing the name of the nation's first president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, and related provisions from the document.
Operativ Media reports that Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a decree to this effect.
In the previous version of the concept, one of the key foreign policy principles was defined as the "continuity of the foreign policy course of the First President – Elbasy N.A. Nazarbayev." In the updated text, this has been replaced with the "continuity of the foreign policy course at a new stage of the country's development."
As part of the amendments, a clause granting Nazarbayev the right to address the people of Kazakhstan, state bodies, and officials on key foreign policy issues was also removed from the document.
