President: Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan more than triples
"Our trade and economic cooperation has demonstrated rapid development momentum in recent years. Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan increased more than threefold in 2025 compared to the previous year, reaching $795 million. This is an excellent indicator. Furthermore, in January–May 2026, trade turnover grew by 33 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching $144 million."
President Ilham Aliyev said this in an interview with the National News Agency of Uzbekistan:
"Established three years ago with a total capital of $500 million, the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan Investment Company has become an important platform for advancing investment cooperation between our countries. The company makes a significant contribution to financing and implementing promising projects across various sectors of the economy in both Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
In addition, the Intergovernmental Commission plays an essential role in fostering ties in economic, trade, investment, and other areas. To date, 15 meetings of the commission have been held. At the recent meeting in Tashkent, the current state of Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan economic and trade cooperation, the results achieved, and future development priorities were discussed in detail.
Our cooperation in the energy sector is also expanding actively. The 'Neftegaztexnologiya' joint venture, established on the basis of Uzbekistan's OZLITINEFTGAZ institute and 'SOCAR NIPI Neftegaz', has been operating successfully in the oil and gas sector since 2016. Moreover, 'Turan Energy AFEZCO', a joint venture established in 2024 between SOCAR and Uzbekneftegaz JSC, handles the export of high-pressure polyethylene produced by the 'Azerikimya' Production Union to Uzbekistan.
Our cooperation in the green energy sector also continues. In 2025, the relevant energy authorities of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan established the 'Green Corridor Union' Limited Liability Company in Baku. This joint venture was created to coordinate the implementation of the Azerbaijan–Central Asia green energy corridor project, renewable energy exports, and the possibilities of transporting energy across the Caspian seabed.
Transit cargo transportation between the two countries has also seen growth. In 2025, freight transit volume grew by 6.7 percent to reach 1.4 million tons. In January–June this year, an increase of 12.2 percent was recorded, reaching 675,000 tons.
A series of joint projects carried out with the Uzbek side are significantly contributing to further expanding economic cooperation and unlocking new development opportunities between our countries. Notable examples include the establishment of a 100-hectare pomegranate orchard known as the 'Friendship Garden' in the liberated Fuzuli district, as well as cooperation in manufacturing Chevrolet cars and Isuzu vehicles. For reference, as of July 13, 2026, a total of 10,720 Chevrolet cars and 275 Isuzu buses have been produced.
Currently, more than 130 commercial entities with Uzbek capital are registered in our country, operating successfully in various economic sectors including industry, agriculture, construction, transport, and services. The presence of Uzbek companies in Azerbaijan reflects mutual trust, a favorable investment climate, and a robust economic partnership between our nations.
The economic potential of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan complements each other and opens broad horizons for creating new formats of cooperation. We support a more active presence of Azerbaijani companies in Uzbekistan and Uzbek companies in Azerbaijan, as well as an increasing number of joint manufacturing and investment projects.
Azerbaijan is also implementing investment projects in Uzbekistan. Notable examples include the hotel and residential complex being built in Tashkent under The Ritz-Carlton brand by PASHA Holding, as well as the major 'Sea Breeze Uzbekistan' tourism and residential complex in the Tashkent region.
I am confident that our mutually beneficial economic partnership will continue to develop successfully, be enriched with new initiatives, and serve the well-being of our peoples as one of the key pillars of the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan allied relations."
