Real Madrid captain Federico Valverde sustained a serious left ankle injury during the La Liga Round 7 match against Atletico (1-2).

Operativ Media reports that the 28-year-old Uruguayan midfielder's injury occurred during the match when Atletico player Lee Kang-in stepped on his ankle. Valverde managed to play until the end of the match.

Following an initial examination by Real Madrid's medical staff, a serious injury was detected in the player's left ankle.

The club stated that Valverde will undergo further medical examinations in the coming hours.
