Relations between Estonia and Azerbaijan are entering a new phase as the two countries aim to expand cooperation in trade, the economy, digital development, innovation, green technology, logistics, and education.

Operativ Media reports that Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna stated this on November 4 in Tallinn at the opening of the fourth meeting of the Estonia-Azerbaijan Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation.

The minister emphasized that Azerbaijan is a key partner for Estonia in the South Caucasus.

"In recent years, our relations have grown significantly closer, and we have consistently expanded our cooperation in digital issues, trade, green technology, and logistics," Tsahkna noted.

According to him, several Estonian companies are already operating successfully in Azerbaijan, particularly in the field of digital services development. A business delegation of nearly 20 companies that visited Baku last year also demonstrated the keen interest of Estonian businesses in the Azerbaijani market.

Tsahkna added that good opportunities also exist to expand bilateral cooperation in energy and education.

The Estonian foreign minister highlighted that the opening of a new Estonian embassy in Baku reflects the strengthening bilateral partnership. He noted that the embassy's official opening will take place at the end of November and confirmed he will personally attend the ceremony.

During the intergovernmental commission meeting, the sides agreed to bolster trade and agricultural ties through regular meetings, business contacts, and knowledge sharing. Furthermore, they agreed to pursue joint initiatives in digital development, innovation, technology, and artificial intelligence integration.

In energy discussions, the parties explored opportunities to increase the involvement of Estonian companies and investors in Azerbaijan's green transition projects. Regarding digital development, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity, discussions focused on boosting Estonia's contribution to digital solutions in Azerbaijan and fostering expert exchanges.

The meeting also reviewed prospects for expanding cooperation in climate action, tourism, education, and culture.
