Spanish Transport Minister Oscar Puente has announced his resignation.

Operativ Media reports, citing the EFE agency, that the minister's decision comes following a train accident in Toledo province.

On the morning of October 28, two passenger trains traveling on the Madrid-Seville route collided near the settlement of Urda in Toledo province, within the autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha.

A total of nearly 540 passengers were on board the trains. At least 69 people lost their lives as a result of the crash.
