WhatsApp users warned in Azerbaijan
2 min read

The National Cybersecurity Agency (MKA), operating under the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, has issued a warning regarding an increase in instances of cyber fraudsters hijacking WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business accounts. The agency urged citizens to take immediate security measures to mitigate existing risks.

Operativ Media reports that MKA released this information.

Users are advised to take the following essential security measures:

· Immediately check linked devices. Access the "Linked devices" section in the app and log out of all unfamiliar devices, as your account may be used on another device even if it functions on your own phone.

· Enable two-step verification. Set up additional protection for your account in the settings section and add a secure email address for account recovery.

· Do not share security codes with anyone. Never give SMS confirmation codes, device linking codes, or security PINs to others, and do not approve login requests you did not initiate.

· Be cautious with QR codes and fake notifications. Do not trust malicious links claiming "Your account will be closed", "Confirm your business account", or sent under the guise of "Support Service", and only scan QR codes through official platforms.

· Keep the app and phone updated. Install WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business only from official app stores, and keep notifications turned on to monitor new device connections.

· Strictly control access to business accounts. Ensure only authorized employees' devices remain linked, and immediately revoke access rights for individuals who leave the company.

· Take immediate action in case of suspicious activity. If unauthorized access is suspected, log out from unknown devices; if access is lost, re-register the phone number in the official app and warn your contacts against potential fraudulent requests made in your name.

Remember that simply enabling two-step verification does not automatically eliminate existing unauthorized access, making a separate check of linked devices essential.
