Kamran Aliyev meets heads of Egyptian and Maldivian anti-corruption bodies
Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan Kamran Aliyev has held separate meetings with Adam Shamil, Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission of the Republic of Maldives, and Amr Adel Hosni, Chairman of the Administrative Control Authority of the Arab Republic of Egypt, on the sidelines of the Third High-Level Meeting of Heads of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Agencies of the OIC Member States taking place in Baku on October 27–28.
This was reported to Operativ Media by the Prosecutor General's Office.
During the meetings, the Prosecutor General informed the delegation heads about the legal and institutional reforms implemented in Azerbaijan under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, as well as measures taken to enhance transparency and accountability in public governance, improve anti-corruption mechanisms, and prevent corruption risks.
At the meeting with the Chairman of Egypt's Administrative Control Authority, both sides emphasized that Azerbaijan-Egypt relations are grounded in historical friendship and mutual respect. Recalling the meeting between President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi during Aliyev's official visit to Egypt on June 8, 2024, they highlighted the importance of high-level political dialogue and cooperation within the UN, the Non-Aligned Movement, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The parties exchanged views on expanding ties between the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan—including the Anti-Corruption Department under the Prosecutor General—and Egypt's Administrative Control Authority, exchanging experience in preventing, detecting, and investigating corruption offenses, and applying effective control mechanisms.
During the meeting with the Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission of Maldives, the sides noted that diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and the Maldives were established in 1994, highlighting the significance of advancing political dialogue and cooperation within international organizations. In this context, the visit of President of the Maldives Mohamed Muizzu to Azerbaijan for COP29 and his participation in the event were recalled.
The discussions focused on preventing and uncovering corruption offenses, broadening information sharing, studying best practices, and enhancing the effectiveness of international legal cooperation.
The Prosecutor General also noted the participation of a member of the Maldivian Commission in the 6th Plenary Meeting of the GlobE Network and the 10th Steering Committee Meeting held in Baku in May 2025, underlining the role of these platforms in international anti-corruption cooperation.
In both meetings, the participants stressed the importance of strengthening institutional anti-corruption cooperation, sharing best practices, and expanding joint efforts on international platforms.
The sides expressed mutual interest in the further development of cooperation between their respective agencies.
