Ilham Aliyev receives UN High Representative for Alliance of Civilizations

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Miguel Ángel Moratinos, UN Under-Secretary-General, High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations, and UN Special Envoy to Combat Islamophobia, on October 26.

Operativ Media reports that Miguel Ángel Moratinos extended his congratulations on the organization of the next World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Azerbaijan.

The guest emphasized that this forum has become a major platform internationally for promoting intercultural and interfaith dialogue.

Commending Azerbaijan's support for the work of the UN Alliance of Civilizations, Miguel Ángel Moratinos noted that the country plays a vital role in promoting intercultural and interfaith dialogue globally.

He also praised Azerbaijan's proactive stance on combating Islamophobia and the regular hosting of international conferences on the topic in the country, emphasizing that the UN Alliance of Civilizations supports Azerbaijan's efforts in this field.

Miguel Ángel Moratinos also expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan's voluntary financial contributions to the UN Alliance of Civilizations.

Noting the long-standing, successful cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN Alliance of Civilizations, President Ilham Aliyev affirmed that the country will continue to support the Alliance's work.

The head of state stressed the importance of the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue hosted in Azerbaijan for discussing pressing issues facing the international community and promoting mutual understanding.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on the prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN Alliance of Civilizations.
