Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro has commented on Cristiano Ronaldo's decision to end his international career.

Operativ Media reports that the 41-year-old forward announced he is leaving the Portuguese national team after 23 years in a five-minute video message posted on his social media accounts on November 5.

Expressing his gratitude to the player, the prime minister emphasized that his achievements with the national team will always be remembered.

"Cristiano, thank you! What you did on the pitch for the Portuguese national team will be remembered forever. You will continue to represent our country around the world off the pitch as well," Montenegro wrote on his social media account.

Cristiano Ronaldo made 234 appearances and scored 146 goals for Portugal. He became a European champion with the national team in 2016 and won the Nations League twice, in the 2018/2019 and 2024/2025 seasons.
