Renowned former Brazilian defender Roberto Carlos has clarified that reports claiming he converted to Islam are untrue.

Operativ Media reports that Ali Sahin, a member of the Turkish parliament, previously claimed the former athlete had embraced Islam. In an interview with the publication "Okaz," the 53-year-old former player stated that he respects religion and looks favorably on his wife practicing her faith, but emphasized that claims regarding his own religious conversion are completely groundless.

During his illustrious career, Roberto Carlos won the Champions League three times and La Liga four times with Real Madrid, and lifted the 2002 World Cup and two Copa America trophies with the Brazilian national team. He also played for Russia's Anzhi Makhachkala during the 2011–2012 season.
