Hikmet Hajiyev: Continuous political dialogue exists between Azerbaijan and Mexico

Azerbaijan-Mexico relations are based on the principles of friendship, partnership, and mutual respect.

Operativ Media reports that Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, said this at a reception organized in Shusha by the Embassy of Mexico in Azerbaijan on the occasion of the country's Independence Day.

Hajiyev stated that relations based on friendship, partnership, mutual understanding, and respect currently exist between Azerbaijan and Mexico.

According to him, the important historical foundation of these relations was laid with the visit of the President of Mexico to Baku in 1978 and the visit of the National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, to Mexico in 1982 during his tenure in the leadership of the USSR.

Hajiyev noted that those historical contacts played an important role in the subsequent development of Azerbaijan-Mexico friendship.

He emphasized that, building on this historical legacy, Mexico was among the first countries to recognize Azerbaijan's independence after it was restored. Currently, the embassies of both countries in Baku and Mexico City are operating at full capacity and carrying out important work to further develop mutual friendly relations:

"Today, very close and tight political relations, as well as a continuous political dialogue, exist between Azerbaijan and Mexico. Regular political consultations and mutual exchanges of views are held between the countries. The positions of Azerbaijan and Mexico align on most of the fundamental issues on the international relations agenda."

The presidential assistant noted that Azerbaijan and Mexico support the development of interstate relations based on the principles of friendship and partnership, norms and principles of international law, and mutual respect, as well as ensuring truth and justice in international relations.

Highlighting the consistent and resolute stance shown by Mexico during the period when Azerbaijani territories were under occupation, he stated that Mexico's support for Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty was highly appreciated by official Baku, and the Azerbaijani people have always valued this position.

Hajiyev emphasized that principles such as mutual respect, commitment to international law, and support for territorial integrity and sovereignty form the solid foundation of friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Mexico.
