President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan have jointly nominated US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Operativ Media reports that this was announced in a joint statement issued by Azerbaijan, the United States, and Armenia on the first anniversary of the White House Peace Summit.

The document noted that the nomination reflects high appreciation for the historic and significant efforts made toward securing peace.

"On this first anniversary, we take deep pride in the achievements our countries have made together and are determined to build upon this foundation, which ended decades of conflict and is leading the South Caucasus toward a more prosperous future. As a sign of high appreciation for these historic and vital efforts to achieve peace, President Aliyev and Prime Minister Pashinyan have jointly nominated President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize," the statement read.

Last year, during the meeting held at the White House, a draft peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia was initialed.
