France Commends 'Decisive Steps' by Azerbaijan and Armenia Toward Peace

Azerbaijan and Armenia have taken significant and decisive steps over the past year toward making peace a tangible reality for the people of both nations.

Operativ Media reports that this was stated in a declaration issued by French Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pascal Confavreux on the anniversary of the Washington summit held on August 8, 2025.

The statement noted that August 8, 2026, marks the first anniversary of the historic agreement aimed at normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

“Over the past year, the authorities of both countries have taken important and courageous steps to turn peace into a tangible reality for their peoples,” the French Foreign Ministry statement emphasized.

Pascal Confavreux stated that France wants the South Caucasus to once again become a full-fledged space for cooperation and a key link connecting Europe and Asia.

He noted that this process should move forward with the signing and ratification of a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the reopening of state borders, and the development of regional transport connections.

The French diplomat added that France, alongside its European partners, will continue to actively support the peace process while fully respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both Azerbaijan and Armenia.
