Germany's inflation accelerates driven by rising energy prices

Inflation in Germany rose to 2.8% year-on-year in July.

Operativ Media reports, citing the Federal Statistical Office of Germany.

Inflation stood at 2.3% in June and 2.6% in May.

"Energy prices continued to rise at an above-average rate. Price increases in this segment were significantly higher than in the previous month, driving up overall inflation," said Ruth Brand, head of the statistical office.

She noted that fuel prices, in particular, rose significantly compared to the previous month.

Compared to the previous month, overall consumer prices increased by 0.8% in July 2026. Energy prices rose by 8.3% compared to the same month in 2025. Food prices grew by 0.4% over the year, which is below average.
