The Senate of Uzbekistan has passed a new bill introducing changes to the Latin-based Uzbek alphabet used in the country. 

Operativ Media reports that, under the decision, the new alphabet has been brought closer to the common alphabet model of the Turkic world.

While the current system consists of 26 letters and 3 letter combinations (o‘, g‘, sh, ch), the updated alphabet will feature 28 letters and an apostrophe ('). 

According to the changes, the letter "o‘" is replaced by "ö", "g‘" by "ğ", the combination "sh" by "ş", and "ch" by "ç". 

Additionally, the letter combination "ng" has been removed from the alphabet.
