New agreements have been reached between Armenia and Iran to simplify customs procedures and accelerate cross-border cargo transportation.

Under the agreement, the "Nordooz-Meghri" simplified customs corridor is set to be launched.

The parties have also decided to extend the existing agreement on the joint use of the border gate for another 10 years.

A corresponding protocol was signed following a meeting in Julfa between Eduard Akopyan, Chairman of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia, and Foroud Asgari, head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration.

During the talks, the sides discussed simplifying customs clearance and ensuring faster border crossings for trucks. The parties also agreed to expand the preliminary electronic exchange of cargo transport data.

Additionally, the agenda included the gradual replacement of paper documents with digital systems, the mutual recognition of Authorized Economic Operator statuses, and the development of electronic customs data exchange.

The parties also plan to strengthen cooperation in coordinating the activities of their customs services. In the initial phase, the simplified customs regime is planned to be applied to the transportation of agricultural and food products.
