The restoration of Azerbaijan's state sovereignty is a significant historical event and the first of its kind in the history of our statehood over the last century. This is because, during a period of more than 200 years from 805 to 2023, we established states on our territory at various stages.

MP Hikmat Babaoglu told Operativ Media.

He noted that there have been historical stages where our territorial integrity was formally ensured:

“However, during this long historical period, we were never able to fully restore our sovereign rights on our territory.

Therefore, I believe that sovereignty, in both political and military-strategic contexts, is a great historical success achieved by Azerbaijan today.

Now, as we solemnly celebrate Sovereignty Day, our newest state holiday, we must also remember the path to sovereignty, how it was achieved, and realize our responsibility to protect it.

In this sense, I believe that celebrating such a holiday in Azerbaijan should not be just an ordinary event or public holiday. It should serve as a key guiding factor for studying our history, appreciating our victory, and striving for new perspectives and opportunities in the new reality created by this victory.”
