Media and Broadcasting Council Condemns Violence Against Journalists
1 min read

Recent attacks on media representatives, physical violence against them, and obstacles created to their professional activities while filming at event locations are a matter of serious concern. Such actions that threaten the safety of journalists also constitute an interference with the public's right to receive information about matters of public importance.

Operativ Media reports that this was stated in a declaration by the Media and Broadcasting Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

It was noted that under Article 6 of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Media," unlawful interference in journalists' professional activities, exerting pressure on them, and persecuting them are impermissible:

“The Media and Broadcasting Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan strongly condemns instances of violence against journalists and the creation of obstacles to their lawful professional activities, expresses confidence that the incidents will be investigated in a prompt, comprehensive, and objective manner, and calls on everyone to respect the lawful activities of media representatives and observe their right to carry out their professional duties safely, freely, and unhindered.”
