Foreign Ministry: We welcome initiative to nominate Feridun Sinirlioglu for UN Secretary-General

“We welcome the initiative to nominate Ambassador Feridun Sinirlioglu, currently the Secretary General of the OSCE, for the post of Secretary-General of the United Nations.”

Operativ Media reports that this was stated by Aykhan Hajizada, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in response to a media inquiry regarding the candidacy of Türkiye's nominee Feridun Sinirlioglu for the position of UN Secretary-General.

“We reiterate the importance of a selection process guided by the principles and objectives of the UN Charter, based on candidates' professional qualities, international and diplomatic experience, impartiality, and ability to build consensus among member states.

We believe that ongoing consultations and constructive dialogue among member states will lead to an appropriate decision that will strengthen the UN's capacity to respond more effectively to modern global challenges,” the statement noted.
