Rubio: Venezuelan elections could be held in 2027

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio considers holding presidential elections in Venezuela in 2027 to be the optimal option.

Operativ Media reports that Rubio made the remark in an interview with The New York Times.

He stated that ideally, elections in the Bolivarian Republic should take place in 2027. However, the Secretary of State did not guarantee that the vote would occur before Donald Trump's presidential term ends. According to him, a number of important steps must be taken in Venezuela for the elections to be held.

Donald Trump's presidential term will end on January 20, 2029. In May, the U.S. Energy Secretary stated that elections in Venezuela would take place before Trump's term ends. Meanwhile, in an interview with Time magazine in early October, Trump said it was still too early to organize elections in Venezuela.

Venezuela's acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, emphasized during her speech at the UN General Assembly that elections would be held when the country's people deem appropriate. She noted that the timing of the vote should not be dictated from the outside.
