The United States is generally supportive of the idea of equipping Japan's navy with nuclear-powered submarines.

According to US military officials, it is technologically feasible for Japan to build its own nuclear submarines, pointing to the country's advanced nuclear energy sector. The US Navy believes that under these conditions, developing a suitable engine for a submarine would not be difficult.

Kyodo notes that the US has recently faced a shortage of warships in the Pacific region.

The Japan Innovation Party, a junior partner in Japan's ruling coalition, openly declared its support in June this year for equipping the Navy with nuclear submarines.

In this regard, Japan's Ministry of Defense has stated its intention to study the acquisition of submarines with engines based on new physical principles.

Although the ministry has not officially mentioned nuclear submarines, it announced that all options are being considered.

According to reports, there are many skeptics of such projects in Japan, who mainly cite the high cost of these submarines and a shortage of qualified personnel.
