Trump announces who will serve as new White House press secretary

US President Donald Trump has announced that department heads, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, will temporarily perform the duties of the White House press secretary.

Operativ Media reports that Trump told journalists this before departing from Ireland for the United States.

"We have a lot of people who want this [to be White House press secretary]. Many want it, many have applied for it," he said. In response to a question about a list of potential candidates, the US President noted that "maybe he put it together over the weekend."

"For a while, we will do the following. We will use the services of secretaries, for example, Marco [Rubio]," Trump said, recalling that US Vice President JD Vance held a briefing for journalists at the White House in early September.

"We will turn to Scott [Bessent] for help, we will use the services of Howard [Lutnick, Commerce Secretary], we will use many secretaries for this purpose," Trump continued.

He added that Education Secretary Linda McMahon could also act as White House press secretary.

"Ultimately, I will resolve this issue. Next will be Marco," Trump said.
