“Inappropriate, threatening, and insulting materials and opinions directed against the Azerbaijani state, its people, country's leadership, and prominent figures continue to be shared in certain Russian media outlets. We believe this is completely contrary to the principles of civilized journalism, ethical norms, and human values. Unfortunately, such instances are consistently observed in the Russian information space.”

Operativ Media reports that this was stated in an announcement by the Azerbaijan Press Council.

The Press Council considers such cases entirely contrary to the spirit of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Russia, as well as their media ties.

“We would also like to note that the Azerbaijani media has always distinguished itself by its sensitive approach to issues concerning neighboring countries, including Russia, and has not given space to opinions and claims that deviate from professional principles.

Therefore, the occurrence of such unpleasant incidents in Russia's information domain causes deep regret and justifiable discontent among the Azerbaijani public,” the statement said.

The Azerbaijan Press Council strongly condemned these occurrences. The Council also appealed to the Russian media community and society as a whole, calling for serious measures against actions aimed at undermining Azerbaijan-Russia media relations and friendly ties between the two peoples.

The Press Council reaffirmed that insulting remarks and threatening claims against the Azerbaijani state, its people, and its prominent figures are unacceptable.

“Given the strict regulatory legal framework of the Russian information space, the systematic appearance of such materials is tantamount to endorsing them at the level of state policy of the Russian Federation.

The Press Council reminds those who resort to such expressions that they bear legal liability,” the statement noted.
