Ireland's Data Protection Commission (DPC) has fined Google €403 million for violating regulations regarding the processing of users' location data.

During the investigation, the DPC found that Google had committed a number of violations related to the processing of users' location data.

It was stated that users may have been unaware that their location data was being used for purposes such as displaying advertisements and determining their interests, which could limit their control over their personal data.

Under data protection regulations, location-related data must be processed lawfully, fairly, and transparently.

The DPC launched its investigation in February 2020 following complaints from several European consumer protection organizations regarding Google's processing of location data in certain services and products.

As a result of the investigation, the commission imposed a total fine of €403 million on Google. The company was also given six months to bring its data processing system into compliance with the established requirements.
