Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Fuad Hussein, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state and prospects for the development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Iraq, as well as cooperation within multilateral platforms.

The parties emphasized the importance of further strengthening the historically established relations between Azerbaijan and Iraq, which are based on friendship and solidarity. In this context, they noted that increasing mutual support on regional and international platforms could contribute to the development of ties between the two countries.

Special attention was also paid to issues on the agenda of multilateral cooperation. The ministers exchanged views on upcoming international events, including the 7th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), to be held in Azerbaijan in October.

In addition, opportunities for cooperation within the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit to be held next year were discussed. The parties emphasized the importance of mutual coordination and cooperation within these multilateral platforms.

The complex regional situation in the Middle East was also one of the main issues discussed during the meeting. The foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Iraq exchanged views on the developments in the region and reviewed their respective positions on the current situation.

The meeting is considered an important platform for continuing the political dialogue between Azerbaijan and Iraq, as well as further developing bilateral relations and multilateral cooperation.
