Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Issues Statement on Victory Day
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has issued a statement regarding Victory Day.
Operativ Media reports that the statement reads:
“November 8 – Victory Day is one of the most glorious pages in the centuries-old history of statehood of the Azerbaijani people. This memorable day symbolizes the historic victory achieved in the 44-day Patriotic War in 2020, as well as the national unity, unshakable will, determination, and devotion of our people to the Motherland.
Six years ago, under the leadership of His Excellency Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and through the heroism of the Azerbaijani Army, Armenia's nearly 30-year occupation of our country's territories was brought to an end, with victory in the Patriotic War secured following the liberation of the city of Shusha on November 8, 2020. As a result of local anti-terrorist measures carried out in September 2023, the state sovereignty of the Republic of Azerbaijan was fully restored.
The Victory achieved in the Patriotic War proved that no force can shake our national unity, statehood resolve, and the determination of our people to claim their lands.
In recent years, Azerbaijan has been undertaking large-scale measures aimed at the restoration and reconstruction of the liberated territories. Under the 'Great Return' program, efforts continue to build modern infrastructure and ensure the return of former internally displaced persons to their native lands.
Azerbaijan is also advancing efforts aimed at strengthening long-term peace and stability in the region. The purposeful and consistent steps taken by Azerbaijan over the past period to build mutual trust with respect to Armenia serve to transform the South Caucasus region into a space of peace and progress rather than conflict. All of this has become possible thanks to the realities created by Azerbaijan.
Our Victory is the pride of our history, the strength of our state, and the eternal pride of our people.
On this remarkable day, we respectfully honor the cherished memory of our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the freedom and defense of our Motherland, and express our deep gratitude to our veterans and war participants.
Happy Victory Day!”
