French Minister Delegate for Ecological Transition Mathieu Lefèvre will serve as the official government spokesperson for a period of six weeks.

Operativ Media reports, citing Le Parisien newspaper.

He will step in for Maud Bregeon, who is going on maternity leave. Lefèvre will retain his current post while fulfilling his new duties.

The Élysée Palace stated that the decision is a temporary redistribution of duties rather than a cabinet reshuffle.

According to the newspaper, Alice Rufo, Minister Delegate to the Ministry of the Armed Forces, was initially considered for the role. However, she declined after setting a condition that she remain government spokesperson until the end of President Emmanuel Macron's term, a requirement that was rejected by the leadership.

The report noted that unlike Lefèvre and Bregeon, Rufo does not support any candidate in the upcoming presidential election. Meanwhile, the other two politicians are involved in the presidential campaign of former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe.

The first round of the presidential election in France is scheduled for April 18, 2027. If no candidate secures more than 50 percent of the vote, the top two contenders will advance to a runoff on May 2.
