More than 1.24 million people left Germany last year

More than 1.24 million people emigrated from Germany in 2025.

Operativ Media reports that this was stated in official data released by Germany's Federal Statistical Office.

According to the data, those who left the country included both German citizens and nationals of other European Union member states. A record number of Germans—288,500—left Germany last year.

In total, 494,000 European Union citizens and nearly 461,000 citizens of other countries departed. Citizens of Romania and Ukraine topped the list in this category, with approximately 173,000 Romanians and 97,000 Ukrainians leaving Germany.

Those same countries also led in terms of arrivals to Germany. In 2025, about 187,000 Ukrainians and nearly 170,000 Romanians moved to Germany, accounting for a quarter of the approximately 1.4 million total arrivals in the country.
