Jeyhun Bayramov addresses meeting on Jammu and Kashmir - UPDATED

Azerbaijan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov has attended and addressed the meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir, held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

Operativ Media reports that in his speech, the minister emphasized Azerbaijan's commitment to a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir issue in accordance with the norms and principles of international law, the UN Charter, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

Bayramov also stressed that Azerbaijan highly appreciates the consistent and active stance of the OIC and its Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir on this matter, noting the importance of the wider international community contributing to keeping the issue on the international agenda.

It was emphasized that an early, just, and peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir issue would serve to strengthen long-term peace, stability, and security in South Asia.

The minister expressed Azerbaijan's hope that maintaining the ceasefire in the region would pave the way for regional peace and stability through the normalization of relations between India and Pakistan.
