Edouard Mendy ends his international career

Senegal national team goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has announced his retirement from international football, bringing an end to his eight-year international career.

Operativ Media reports that the 34-year-old Al-Ahli goalkeeper announced his decision on Saturday via a video posted on his Instagram account. The video featured highlights of his performances for Senegal, accompanied by the message "Thank you, Senegal."

Mendy made his debut for Senegal in 2018 under former head coach Aliou Cisse. He made 59 appearances for the national team, conceding 34 goals and keeping 31 clean sheets.

The goalkeeper's most significant achievement with Senegal was winning the Africa Cup of Nations in 2021. Senegal defeated Egypt on penalties in the final to claim the continental title for the first time in their history.

Mendy also featured in two World Cups with Senegal, representing his country at the 2022 tournament in Qatar and the 2026 tournament hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
