The US House of Representatives has passed a resolution demanding that President Donald Trump halt military operations against Iran.

Operativ Media reports that 220 lawmakers voted in favor of the resolution, while 204 voted against. The vote was held in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives.

The resolution is not legally binding and is advisory in nature. Through such documents, lawmakers express their positions, and the US executive branch may choose to ignore them.

Under the US Constitution, the power to declare war belongs to Congress, not the president. However, in recent decades, US presidents have broadly interpreted authorizations granted by lawmakers for the use of military force abroad.
