Turkish schools plan to open media literacy clubs to increase students' resilience against disinformation and online manipulation.

Operativ Media reports that this was stated by Burhanettin Duran, Director of the Communications Department of the Presidential Administration.

According to him, media and information literacy clubs will be established in primary, middle, and high schools in Turkey.

Duran said the main goal of the project is to protect children from digital threats, disinformation, and information campaigns that could negatively affect social harmony.

Duran noted that through these clubs, schoolchildren will develop analytical thinking skills, learn to verify information, and recognize manipulative content. He added that this will enable children to perceive information in the digital environment more consciously and resist attempts to spread false information.

To combat organized information campaigns on social media, the Center for Combating Disinformation was established under the Communications Department of the Turkish Presidency. One of its main activities is the analysis and verification of unsubstantiated claims circulating on the internet.
