"Caucasian Albania existed when the concept of 'Armenian' did not exist," says MP

During the period of Armenian occupation, a policy of appropriating the Christian heritage of Caucasian Albania was pursued.

MP Tural Ganjaliyev said this in a statement to Operativ Media.

He stated that 30 years ago, when Azerbaijan had just gained its independence, Armenia tried to present itself as the only Christian civilization in the Caucasus.

According to the MP, Caucasian Albania existed on Azerbaijani territories long before the concept of Armenia existed in the Caucasus.

“Armenia pursued a policy of appropriating and claiming the Christian civilization of Caucasian Albania. This discourse was further strengthened during the period when our lands were under occupation,” Tural Ganjaliyev said.

He noted that this approach was used in campaigns against Azerbaijan by Armenia, its supporters, as well as various Armenian diaspora and lobby groups.

The MP stated that it is now clear that Caucasian Albania is an integral part of the historical and cultural heritage of the Azerbaijani people.

“Justice has now prevailed. The false Armenian discourse and religious narratives have been exposed. From now on, the Azerbaijani people will protect their Caucasian Albanian civilization and will not allow it to be distorted by claims related to the Armenian occupation,” Tural Ganjaliyev emphasized.
