Bayer sporting director Simon Rolfes has denied reports that the team intends to sign French forward Karim Benzema.

Operativ Media reports that Rolfes gave a brief response regarding the club's transfer plans in a statement to Germany's Bild newspaper: "Our squad is complete."

According to Algerian journalist Ilyes Kaddouri, the 38-year-old Benzema is interested in a move to Bayer and has discussed the matter with his former teammates Moussa Diaby and Lucas Vazquez, who currently play for the German club.

Benzema's decision to follow Bayer's official account on social media has also fueled the transfer rumors, sparking speculation among fans about a potential move to the German club.

It should be noted that Benzema left Al-Hilal in August 2026. He has an ambassadorial contract with the Saudi Arabian league valid until 2030. Under the agreement, the player must participate in Saudi Pro League events, an obligation that could hinder his ability to play for a European club.

According to reports, the player's representatives are working to revise or ease the terms of that contract to make his return to Europe possible.

Benzema has been playing for Al-Hilal since 2025. He scored nine goals and provided five assists in 13 matches during the 2025/26 season.

Transfermarkt values the former French international at €5 million.
