Argentina protests to British and Israeli ambassadors

The Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the ambassadors of Great Britain and Israel over plans to develop oil fields near the disputed Malvinas (Falkland) Islands without the consent of Buenos Aires.

Operativ Media reports that official protest notes were presented to the diplomats. During the meetings, the advancement of the "Sea Lion" project and other related activities were condemned.

The Argentine Foreign Ministry also criticized the British government for issuing guidelines regarding business activities in the disputed territory. According to the ministry, through these actions, the UK is attempting to promote commercial activity and hydrocarbon extraction in the Malvinas Islands, South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, as well as the surrounding maritime areas.

According to the Argentine side, the UK's actions contradict the requirements of UN General Assembly Resolution 31/49. This resolution calls on both Argentina and the UK to refrain from taking unilateral actions that could affect the situation until the process for a peaceful resolution of the sovereignty dispute over the islands is completed.
