The administration of US President Donald Trump has approved visas for Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to attend the High-Level Week of the UN General Assembly in New York.

According to Operativ Media, citing the Associated Press, the US State Department announced that visas have been issued to Iran's "core delegation" as well as essential staff.

"In accordance with our obligations, the core delegation of the Iranian regime will be able to participate in the High-Level Week of the UN General Assembly," the Department said.

The Iranian delegation will be subject to travel restrictions, and its members will be prohibited from purchasing luxury goods and certain other items. The State Department also noted that the size of the 2026 delegation will be smaller than that of the 2025 delegation.

The decision was announced a day after the State Department refused to issue visas to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his delegation to attend the UN General Assembly session, and amid ongoing relations between the US and Iran for more than six months.
