Trump says new steps against Iran are possible
U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that Washington could take new steps against Iran if an agreement is not reached with the country.
Operativ Media reports that Trump made the comments during an address to Republican supporters in Iowa ahead of the congressional midterm elections.
The American leader attributed the unresolved situation regarding Iran to a desire to avoid human casualties. However, he emphasized that tough measures could be taken against Tehran at a certain stage.
Speaking to reporters before the rally, Trump expressed confidence that the situation concerning Iran would be resolved soon. He noted that Tehran would either reach a deal or the U.S. would settle the matter itself. While the president stated that a diplomatic resolution was possible, he did not offer further details.
On October 8, Trump stated that the U.S. had no intention of striking Iran prior to the congressional midterm elections on November 3.
On Saturday, he remarked that talks with Tehran were progressing well, though he expressed skepticism regarding Iran's reliability. Trump avoided giving a direct answer when asked whether military operations against Iran might resume next week.
According to the Axios news portal, the U.S. President does not plan to resume military action against Iran immediately after the midterms, intending instead to prioritize negotiations with Tehran.
