The Azerbaijani men's national boxing team has set a new record for the number of medals won at the European Championship.

The Azerbaijan Boxing Federation told Operativ Media that the national team achieved this milestone at the tournament held in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria.

Azerbaijani boxer Saidjamshid Jafarov (75 kg) secured the team's fifth medal by advancing to the semifinals, marking a historic first for the national team. Previously, Azerbaijani athletes had won a maximum of four medals at a single such tournament. Azerbaijani representatives reached the podium four times in Plovdiv in 2006, and again seven years later in Minsk. Securing five medals this time represents a new record at the European Championships.

Prior to Jafarov, team members Subhan Mamedov (50 kg) and Nabi Isgandarov (70 kg) advanced to the finals, while Amin Mammadzada (55 kg) reached the semifinals. Mahammad Abdullayev (+90 kg) secured a bronze medal.

The championship will conclude on September 25.
