Kaja Kallas, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, has announced that she is ready to hold phone conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

Operativ Media reports that, in response to a question during an interview with the Finnish broadcasting company Yle, Kallas said, "Of course, if such an opportunity arises, I will speak."

Kallas said she had previously met with Lavrov at international events held within the framework of ASEAN and the G20. 

She noted that during those meetings, she directly conveyed the European Union's position to Lavrov.

The EU High Representative also stated that because the bloc supports Ukraine, it cannot currently play the role of a full mediator between Russia and Ukraine.
