UK launches second military satellite into orbit
The United Kingdom has launched Titania, its second military Earth observation satellite, into orbit.
Operativ Media reports, citing the country's Ministry of Defence.
According to the report, the satellite was launched in October. Weighing approximately 100 kilograms, Titania orbits the Earth every 90 minutes and travels at a speed of 27,000 kilometres per hour.
The satellite was designed and manufactured in Hampshire, England, through a partnership between the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL) and BAE Systems.
The UK launched its first military satellite, Tyche, into orbit in August 2024. The launches of the Juno and Oberon satellites are scheduled for 2027.
Additionally, London will test three neuromorphic sensors to monitor space traffic as part of Project Inaros. The sensors will be deployed in Australia, the UK, and Cyprus.
According to the British Ministry of Defence, these sensors could be used as an early warning system to detect unusual or potentially threatening activity near the country's satellites.
