Cassis Visit Underscores Swiss Support for Azerbaijan's Peace Agenda

The visit to Azerbaijan by Ignazio Cassis, Member of the Swiss Federal Council, Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, and OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, holds significant importance for both bilateral relations and regional diplomacy.

Member of Parliament and Doctor of Political Science Rizvan Nabiyev stated this in a comment to Operativ Media.

According to him, Cassis's visit to Baku in his capacity as OSCE Chairperson-in-Office underscores the importance the organization attaches to reinforcing sustainable peace and stability in the South Caucasus.

The lawmaker noted that this is the first visit by an OSCE Chairperson-in-Office to Azerbaijan and the wider region since the OSCE Minsk Group and the overall Minsk process effectively and legally came to an end in 2025.

Rizvan Nabiyev emphasized that the visit takes place against the backdrop of new political realities, with Azerbaijan and Armenia having lived in peace for nearly a year.

“This visit is also an appreciation by both Switzerland and the OSCE of President Ilham Aliyev's model for peace and new cooperation, as well as its outcomes,” the MP stated.

In his view, Ignazio Cassis’s visit further demonstrates the importance Switzerland assigns to Azerbaijan's agenda for peace in the South Caucasus, which is based on stability, cooperation, and international law.
