Twenty-one people have been killed in a three-vehicle collision in South Africa's Western Cape province.

According to preliminary reports, 18 people died at the scene, and the injured were taken to nearby medical facilities.

The Western Cape Department of Mobility later announced that the death toll had risen to 21.
