New head appointed to Azerbaijan Airlines' passenger airline
Mario Chaves has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Passenger Airline, a subsidiary of Azerbaijan Airlines. He will lead the airline through its next phase of development.

Mario Chaves has more than 30 years of professional experience in aviation. Since 2023, he has served as Chief Operating Officer at TAP Air Portugal. Prior to that, he was Chief Executive Officer at Portugalia Airlines, Chief Operating and Commercial Officer at Grupo SATA, and interim Chief Executive Officer at Cabo Verde Airlines, where he later served as Chief Corporate Officer.
He began his aviation career in 1995 and started working as a pilot for TAP Air Portugal in 1998. He later held senior positions in flight operations, including regulatory and efficiency areas, at IATA headquarters, and held executive roles at various international airlines. The new head's extensive international experience in airline operations and commercial management, as well as in senior leadership roles, will make a significant contribution to the airline's expansion strategy.
This appointment is a continuation of Azerbaijan Airlines' efforts toward sustainable development, increasing operational efficiency, and improving service quality, as well as the implementation of advanced international practices.
