Today marks another anniversary of the Caucasian Islamic Army's liberation of Baku from the occupation of Armenian-Bolshevik forces.

Operativ Media  recalls that 108 years have passed since the liberation of the Azerbaijani capital.

On September 15, 1918, Azerbaijani and Turkish soldiers liberated Baku from Bolshevik-Dashnak occupation, writing a glorious chapter in the history of the Azerbaijani state.

With this, the dominance of Armenians and Bolsheviks in Baku and surrounding districts was ended in Azerbaijan, securing its independence.

The liberation of Baku from Armenian-Bolshevik occupation is one of the glorious pages of 20th-century Azerbaijani history.

Despite the declaration of Azerbaijan's independence in May 1918, part of the country's territory, including Baku and surrounding districts, remained under Armenian-Bolshevik occupation. Without this, it was difficult to envision the state independence of Azerbaijan.

The newly independent young Azerbaijan, not yet recognized internationally, lacked sufficient capabilities to ensure its territorial integrity. Under such conditions, despite its own very difficult situation, Ottoman Turkey sent its military forces under the command of Nuri Pasha to Azerbaijan to ensure the territorial integrity of brotherly Azerbaijan. Despite the objections of European states to the arrival of Turkish troops in Azerbaijan, Ottoman Turkey honorably fulfilled its historical mission in August-September 1918.

On September 15, the Caucasian Islamic Army and the Azerbaijani Corps liberated Baku from the occupiers. Following this historic event, the capital of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic government was moved from Ganja to Baku.
