The Ombudsman's Office has responded to claims regarding the rights of several ethnic Armenians imprisoned after being convicted of crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, terrorism, financing of terrorism, and other serious offenses.

The press service of the Ombudsman's Office told Operativ Media about this.

It was stated that under the Ombudsman's National Preventive Mechanism, meetings were held with these individuals, including Ruben Vardanyan, during the preliminary investigation, court proceedings, and after their conviction in correctional facilities. Their detention conditions, treatment, and the protection of their rights have been continuously monitored.

The monitoring was carried out in accordance with international standards. During the visits, these individuals, including Ruben Vardanyan, had their rights explained to them in their native language, their health was checked by a medical member of the National Preventive Group, and they were provided with various publications, legislative acts, and fiction books of their choice.

According to the report, the prisoners have access to the Ombudsman's 916 Hotline, and any received appeals have been processed in accordance with the law.

The Ombudsman's Office noted that the conditions in the facilities where these individuals are held meet modern standards, and they face no discrimination. Their rights to engage in sports, have outdoor walks and leisure time, access information, and maintain telephone contact with family members are fully ensured.

It was reported that even though they had no funds in their accounts when transferred to the correctional facilities, their phone calls with family members and other opportunities were not restricted.

It was also noted that the prisoners' requests regarding notary and medical services were fulfilled in accordance with the law. Most recently, Arayik Harutyunyan's request for notary services was executed, a process observed on-site by members of the Ombudsman's National Preventive Group.

The statement emphasized that requests for additional medical examinations, extra phone calls with family members, as well as appeals made to state bodies by the detainees themselves and their lawyers, have been granted.

Based on the results of the monitoring and visits, the Ombudsman's Office stated that the rights of the individuals imprisoned after being found guilty of serious crimes by the court are ensured without any discrimination.

It was noted that the claims spread on websites on behalf of these individuals are groundless, do not reflect the truth, and serve biased political agendas.
