Araghchi: Mojtaba Khamenei's location kept secret for security reasons
Speeches and footage of Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei are not being broadcast due to security concerns, and his location remains confidential.
Operativ Media reports that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated this in an interview with Al Jazeera.
"He is very active and fully in control of his position as leader. All matters are submitted to him, and his decisions reach us, so there is no weakness in this regard. The fact that no footage or speeches of him are released is mainly for security reasons. In any case, we face enemies who seek to attack. We experienced this during the past two wars. They killed our officials. They assassinated our leader (Ali Khamenei - ed.)," Araghchi said, quoting the interview on his Telegram channel.
According to him, Mojtaba Khamenei's location is kept secret because U.S. and Israeli forces targeted the residences of several Iranian officials during the war:
"In any case, this decision was taken to protect his safety, and in my view, it has not caused any issues in managing state affairs."
Araghchi admitted that he has not met with M. Khamenei himself, but noted that President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, and others have been received by the country's leader.
