North Korea tests missile equipped with cluster warhead
North Korea has tested a strategic cruise missile equipped with a cluster warhead, which is reportedly capable of destroying targets across an area of 5 to 6 hectares.
Operativ Media reports, citing the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).
According to North Korea's Missile General Bureau, the test verified the strike effectiveness of the medium-sized cluster warhead. It stated that the warhead can destroy targets located within a 5–6 hectare area with high density.
During the tests conducted on November 2, the missile's vertical approach characteristics toward the target were also evaluated. According to the agency, enhanced maneuverability during the terminal phase of flight allows strikes to be carried out taking into account the geographical features of various terrains.
The test was overseen by General Kim Jong Sik, a member of the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea and first deputy director of a department of the party's Central Committee.
North Korea's Missile General Bureau emphasized the importance of developing various weapon systems to defend the country against external threats. It noted that the tests were conducted as part of planned research and development aimed at enhancing the combat capabilities of its missile systems.
